Drink More Milk to Healthy Hair / Toma Leche Para un Cabello Saludables

This is part of a sponsored campaign with the California Milk Processor Board and Latina Mom Bloggers. However, all opinions expressed are my own.

Our hair is made of proteins that are essential for hair growth and repairs damaged hair. No matter how much you spend on products, you must focus on your beauty from the inside out. A healthy diet that includes milk protein may result in thick, long, shiny and healthy hair.
Based on the milk benefits for our hair, I will bring you one recipe per month with milk as the star ingredient to help you consume more milk.
Die Dreaming Juice is a very common drink in Dominican Republic; it is loaded with healthy proteins and vitamins for healthy hair.

You will only need:
  • 1 cup of Orange Juice: vitamin C, potassium and folic acids is what you will find in a glass of orange juice,  which has nutrients that may improve hair, skin and nails.
  • 1/2 cup of milk:  the calcium in the milk may promote hair growth, milk also contains other curly hair-friendly nutrients like Vitamins A, B6, biotin and potassium.
  • Sugar
  • Ice

Both the milk and the orange juice have to be sweetened before mixing them.
Pour the cup of juice in a tall glass, add ice to taste, mix well and then add the milk. Easy, right? Enjoy and try not to die while dreaming!!

Natural DIY Hair Color Refreshers / Revive el color de tu cabello naturalmente

Commercial hair dye products can be quite harsh. The chemicals used to change the hair color can cause it to become dry and brittle, especially if your hair is curly and you use it constantly.

For me a natural option is definitely more attractive, because I don't have to worry about damaging my hair. You all know by now that I am a henna lover, its make my hair stronger, longer and made me have natural highlights thanks to my grey hair.

I am bringing you a couple of DIY recipes to refresh your color while adding shine, strenghthen  and even help with dandruff.

For blonde hair, use chamomile tea. Chamomile is a common name for several daisy-like plants from the Asteracea family, and can keep blonde locks looking brilliant. Chamomile is also useful in hair treatments. The yellow color of chamomile infusion imparts brightness and shine and lightened the color of hair. Rinsing with chamomile may also help reduce or prevent hair loss. Use chamomile tea, enough for the treatment.

For red hair, use a mixture of beet and carrot juice. Beets contain a purple pigment called betacyanin, while carrots get their color from betakeratin. Both pigments are perfect to help refresh red hues. Beets contains carotenoids that can help can increase the quality, thickness and gloss of hair. Use one part beet juice and one part carrot juice.

For brown hair, use espresso mixed with conditioner. The color comes from roasted coffee beans which are then brewed to help keep your brunette hair looking deep and rich. Coffee supposedly helps hair growth a possible stimulant for hair follicles.  One part espresso to two parts conditioner.

Directions for all treatments,
Wet hair. Add or combine ingredients in a bottle. Shake well and apply to the hair. Put a shower cap on and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and condition.

Do you use Natural hair dyes?

Welcome Almond Milk into my beauty regimen / Bienvenida leche de almendras a mi regimen de belleza

I ain't gonna lie I didn't know about almond milk, I didn't know you can make milk out of almonds, well not you (maybe) but buy almond milk. But thanks to my Pinterest boards I learned about it and how good it is for my overall health. I don't really like milk, so it took me a while to buy it, but I most say the taste is really good and you can buy it in different flavors and do pretty much anything with it as you would with cow milk... Almond milk is a healthy alternative if you can’t or may not enjoy the taste of soy or cow’s milk, or just looking for fewer calories alternative. (The low caloric content of almond milk causes less of an impact on our totally daily consumption of food calories.)

One cup  of unsweetened almond milk contains vitamins A, E, D and B12 plus riboflavin, magnesium, potassium, calcium, zinc and iron. It has zero saturated fat, zero trans fat, zero cholesterol and only 30 calories. The 1 cup serving size also has 1 gram dietary fiber, 1 gram carbohydrates with zero sugars, 2.5 grams of fat and 150 milligrams of sodium. Holy almond!!

Calcium and vitamins such as vitamins A and E  are abundant in almond milk. Calcium is essential for bone health, while vitamin A is important for vision as well as skin. Adequate amounts of vitamin E, an antioxidant, may help you maintain younger, healthier-looking skin. It is also an important vitamin to help maintain the immune system.

In addition to almonds and filtered water, almond milk may contain ingredients such as calcium carbonate, sea salt, sunflower lecithin, locust bean gum and gellan gum. Flavored almond milk may contain ingredients such as natural vanilla flavoring, and cocoa and all-natural evaporated can juice. Some varieties of almond milk include vanilla and chocolate.

Almonds are full of these essential nutrients and are a good source of protein, and we all know protein is good for your muscles, skin and for natural hair, So, as you consume it, you are increasing the level of health in your diet and healthy hair from the inside out

DIY hair masks.
1.-All you need is *Flax seed oil and almond milk (you can use powder or a combination of both) mix the ingredients and apply into hair as a pre-poo. wash and style as usual
*Flax extract is known for its soothing properties and is rich in essential fatty acids, minerals and vitamins. The Omega 3 fatty acids helps nourish the hair shaft and help to produce hair growth, stronger and shinier hair. This also helps prevent dry scalp.
2.-Almond milk and Honey. This combination is refreshing for your hair, especially after exposure to sunlight or heat. Mix 1/4 cup of almond milk with two tablespoons of honey; use it as a pre-poo or DC, wash and style as usual.

And for your skin try this amazing Scrub.

What is your favorite way to use Almond milk? I love it on my oatmeal with coconut butter and chia seeds, yummyyyy

Spring curls ready DIY hair mask / Preparando nuestros rizos para la primavera ; hecho en casa.

In Spring, there’s a transition from the dryness of winter to the moisture from the rain and the impending humidity of the summer. I would back down from the heavier conditioners using lighter ones. Begin to protect the hair from the increased expose to the sun. Keep the cuticle sealed, so it won’t absorb the moisture in the air.

For this DIY mask you will need plain yogurt, Mayonnaise and egg white. This conditioner can soften dull hair and add life to it.

Why these ingredients?
Yogurt:Yogurt is associated with the term "probiotics", which means "that which supports and is for life"! Yogurt is a dairy product that is obtained by fermenting milk. This fermentation uses bacteria to transform milk which is a liquid into yogurt which is semi-solid in nature. Yogurt is a proven treasure-trove of enriching elements like zinc, calcium, lactic acid, Vitamins B1, B2, B-6 and B-12, protein, and yeast. It holds rich deposits of friendly bacteria that boost overall health as well as that of the hair and skin. Yogurt has a multitude of benefits that will surely work wonders for your hair and skin problems.
Its perfect to use a  conditioner base, and is also a gentle cleanser. Yogurt promotes hair growth, and makes it easy to comb hair, get rid of knots and prevent frizzy hair.
All these benefits will be double good if you also make yogurt part of your diet "beauty inside out"

Egg:
Raw eggs contain a significant concentration of essential proteins and nutrients. Because of the high protein content, eggs can be used to strengthen hair follicles. Likewise, the nutrients work much like conditioners to add volume, shine and texture.

Mayo,
Mayo is particularly good known for be good on dealing with dry hair while moisturizing it, while giving it shine and body.
Mayonnaise contains eggs, vinegar or lemon juice, and oil. All three of these ingredients are good for moisturizing hair individually, and the combination will give you shiny curls. The thickness of mayonnaise helps coat your hair with these ingredients and can also work as a sealant on split ends.

Mix all the ingredients, the quantity will vary on your hair length.
On mine mix: one egg white 3 full spoon of yogurt and 2 of Mayo.. I always use natural mask as pre-poo.

Can Beer Wash Out a Relaxer? Beer hair Recipes / Puede la cerveza sacar el alisado del cabello? Recetas a base de cerveza

When I was a child I used to live in a very particular house, if I could  call it that way; there were 3 little houses in a row and we had to share the same patio and the same restroom and ohh boy the things you see when 3 Caribbean families share the same back yard: a little chicken farm, women in towels crossing by your door, boys brushing their teeth in the patio because of course the restroom was being used for someone else,, Viejas in rolos, and all kinds of funny things I could write a book about... One day when I was around 11 I opened up my back door and saw my neighbor pouring a beer on her hair; I asked, of course, we Dominicans can't just walk by and pretended like nothing is happening and is not our business, ohh no, we ask... And it was explained to me that she was tired of the relaxed hair and that the beer would wash it out, I was confused, I mean, I was waiting like for ever to have my hair relaxed and she wanted to wash it off? - My mom always said: you will get your hair relaxed when you turn 15.-

Does beer really wash out a relaxer?
I know all of you that want to have your hair curly again are waiting for a positive answer, but noooooo chicas, once you had your hair relaxed the only thing that will take it off/out is grow it out and cut  it little by little or all at once.

But beer is actually really good for your hair because of the protein in the malt and the hops in it. These proteins can bond with the individual hairs, strengthening, repairing and replenishing the hair making it soft and shiny.

Here are some recipes to try:
  1. Mix one teaspoon of jojoba oil and a cup of warm beer. Wash your hair as usual and rinse well. Pour the mixture of beer and jojoba oil into the hair. Massage it through. Let it set for a few minutes and then rinse with warm water. The beer adds body and the jojoba oil adds shine.
  2. Homemade beer shampoo is easy to make. Begin with a sulfate free shampoo. Pour one cup of it into a plastic squeeze bottle. Heat one and a half cups of beer in a pot. Bring to a boil and heat until the beer reduces to one-quarter cup. Cool the beer and add it to the shampoo. Shake to mix it. Use a small amount to wash your hair and rinse well. The beer will give hair shine and bounce. Store the shampoo in the refrigerator.
  3. Beer hair rinse mix 1/4 cup water, 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar and 1/4 cup beer  and use as a final rinse after conditioning, rinsing completely with warm water. Repeat every seven to 10 days.
Remember that healthy hair comes from the inside out, all these natural remedies works, but if you really want healthy, long, shinny hair: drink plenty of water, include protein to your diet and a multi-vitamin with iron (carry oxygen to hair), zinc (build hair protein), Copper (optimize hair color), Vitamin A (keep the scalp healthy), Vitamin B and C (help hair growth and color).

Have you ever used beer on your hair?

Pict. from Avocado lovers board

Eat it...
Green Salad Inspired by Adriana best recipe

Ingredients
1 bag of field greens or spring mix
1 avocado Hass
1 cucumber
Optionals (green bell pepper, Onion, smoked Salmon)
FOR THE DRESSING
Olive oil (leave some for you hair treatment)
 lemon juice
Dijon mustard, salt and pepper

Mix all the ingredients, make it look beautiful add dressing and sprinkle with  chia seed .
Avocados are high in vitamins B and E, which work at the cellular level to protect and strengthen hair. Vitamin B is essential for hair growth. Vitamin E helps repair damage on the scalp, which may slow or prevent hair growing, so don't just apply it, Eat it "Beauty Inside Out."
Rub It...

AVOCADO FOOT SCRUB
Ingredients:
1 avocados
1/4 cup cornmeal
1 tbsp sea salt
Let the preparation start:
Dry out an avocado pit for a few days, then break it into several pieces with a hammer or cooking mallet. In a spice mill, coffee grinder or food processor, grind down the pit to make a gritty meal.
A ground avocado pit is abrasive enough to break down calluses, while the fruit’s rich flesh contains essential oils that nourish skin.
Mash the avocado fruit with the cornmeal, 1/4 cup of ground avocado pit and sea salt.
Gently massage the mixture into your feet in a circular motion, starting with the toes and working up to the ankles. Rinse with warm water.☺

Apply it...
HAIR MASK
Ingredients:
1 tsp pf Honey
2 tsp Olive Oil
1-2 tsp of coconut oil
1/2 Avocado

Mix all the ingredients, you can mashed the avocado, but I prefer to use a food processor to a smooth texture. Apply on dry hair as a pre-poo (my favorite) or on damn hair. Leave it on for at least 30 Min. and rinse out with warm water.

Avocados contain Vitamin E, as well as 20 other vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. The high-fat content of avocados makes hair less dry and help with breakage. Great for severely damaged or dry hair ,protect and strengthen hair.

Another great avocado hair mask here.

Tomatoes for long healthy hair / Los tomates y tu cabello

I am a product junkie, But I also like to experiment with the ingredients that mother nature has to offer. I cook 3 times a day anyway, so it is very easy for me to experiment with natural ingredients. While I was doing a tomato salad, something came to my mind: are Tomatoes good for my hair, lol can I use it on it?

Tomatoes are actually a fruit and not a vegetable. However, since it’s not as sweet as other fruits and is most often served as main dish, most people think that tomatoes are a vegetable. Tomatoes are loaded with vitamins A, B2, C and E, minerals: Sodium, calcium, iron, copper, potassium, phosphorous, magnesium, manganese and zinc. The red tomato has a lot of vitamin c and antioxidants that helps purify the hair and can be used to remove products build up...

You can apply tomatoes to your hair in a variety of ways, tomato paste, sauce or even tomato juice should work wonders. The acidity in the tomatoes helps to balance the Ph levels in your hair, bringing back its natural color, smell and stop hair falling. Tomato paste also acts as a good conditioner for the hair and brings the  natural shine to the hair.

Tomatoes mixed with chamomile tea will leave your hair soft, manageable and promote hair growth. Helps define your curls.
Hair mask: mash tomatos, olive oil and mayo leave in for 30 min.

Other properties:
  • Fight Cancer Cells
  • Neutralize Free Radicals in the body
  • Lower Cholesterol
  • Reduces High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
