Split ends on Natural hair / Horquetillas o puntas abiertas y tu pelo rizo o Afro

The split ends are caused by abuse of the hair with the brush, the comb or other tools like blowers and flat iron.

Unfortunately There is no way to mend or repair split ends or damaged hair, only resort is to remove them completely and taking the proper precautions to prevent them from returning.
There are a couple of different types of split ends.

•The generic end split

•Splits occurring multiple times up the same strand of hair

•A split occurring in the middle of the hair strand that will appear as a hole if the strand is bunched up

•Single strand knots which occur most often in dry, curly hair
here are two different chart of Split Ends ( from google image)

Here are some recommendations to avoid Split ends
1 - If the ends are battered ideally cut them, so that the hair appear healthier and start taking care of new ends. The ends require frequent cuts even when healthy.

2 - If you have to expose your hair to heat or chemical treatments, you need to use conditioning masks and decrease the use of heat or become less frequent treatments. Avoid make various chemical treatments such as color and permanent at the same time.

3 - It is important to have a healthy diet that provides vitamins and minerals.

4 - biotin-rich foods are important for hair, skin and nails. These include: soybeans, oats, corn, rice and others. You can take Biotin supplements if your hair is weak or falls.

5 - If you use the dryer or iron  often try to protect it from heat.

6 - Avoid the sun and pool water if possible. If you go to the pool used a cap or rinse it as soon as posible. here more tips.

7 - There are a lot of home remedies for hair that can help you maintain healthy tips like avocado and natural oils.

8 -  Products claiming to repair your hair, they do not work, they simply glue your ends together for a short period of time(if you are looking for a fast temporary fix those products are a good option.)

9 - If your hair is very dry, consider a leave-in conditioner.

10 - Avoid washing your hair more than necessary, once shampoo a week is more than enough.

  1. Hello!!I would like to ask you a question:
My hair has been processed few times, last year I had a blonde on, my natural hair color is dark brown(almost black), and after that my hair lost completely all my curls!!

I been devastated, I've tried so many things, cut it very short, done some natural mask at home and nothing!! I have no more curly hair :(
By the way, I painted my hair my natural color, no more coloring!! Any suggestions how can I build them back up and also to encourage growth?

    Thank you so much!!
