Today is the first official day of my natural hair journey. I am very excited, yet intimidated. There's a lot of power in these curls.I am learning to embrace me for me. I've found a lot of great literature and blogs, videos, and social networks online to help me through this Journey. Today I said goodbye to my very last weave. I almost backed out of this commitment that I made to myself today, but I'm not going to. I'm gonna stick with it and learn to love it. Learning to rock my natural curls will not just be about my hair, but it will be about all of me. It will be about standing up for and doing what I love and want to do regardless of what others may think or have to say about it. I am very excited to learn about the science of black hair give away because I believe it include many of the beginning fundamentals and even more complex things I need to know.

I am currently transtioning. I am just getting out of panic mode. I am just starting to understand my hair a bit more. I have no family or friend support so I could use all the help I can get. They think all this is weird. Had thoughts of perming but decided to hang in there.

Ya llevo 12 años de cabello natural en nuestra querida isla and the thing I most love about being natural is that is teaching other people to love their natural beauty as I am learning to love mine.

ReplyDeleteI am still learning so much about my hair but one thing that has made my styling options better and detangling with fewer single strand knots is banding!!! I didn't think I would like it but since my hair shrinks up to 60% of it's length and loves to curl up with other curls so much, I figured I'd give it a try. I've only done it 3 times and it's been awesome. And since my hair is so thick, it's much faster to do than a 2 strand twist. If you do it just right you will have some different texture in your hair but at the same time retain most of your own pattern, but a stretched out version of it. I love it!

I'm so in love with my natural hair. When it's wet or damp it feels soft but once it's dry feels like brillo LOL! I love the freedom it gives me to wash it everyday if i want and never be afraid the rain will ruin it cause my kinky hair loves rain. It's fun hair :D Do you think people who don't like naturally kinky hair are subconsciously or consciously supporting racism-white supremacy?

-Coming up on ONE year of NATURALICITY! It feels free and liberating. My hair can do some amazing things which seem almost effortless at times now that the chemical is GONE. Never been more thankful for making the choice to leave the "creamy crack" lifestyle behind.
