Ever since I had my kids I don't paint my nails in a regular basic, why because it is a waste of money for me, To much to do with my hands, lol. But ever since I discovered Pinterest I somehow got obsessed with nails and so many cute, artistical styles you see there.

As woman when we have a trip, a party or any special occasions we want to look our best, that is how I get into Gel nails; I had a trip last February, so of course I needed to look my best: MY hair was awesome, I had been working out a lot, but my nails were a mess, so after hearing a friend of mine taking about Gel nails and how amazing there were, I went for it.

When I got there I thought they were a little expensive for a nail polish, but oh well they were supposed to last for 2 weeks (just as I needed).

I knew they weren't so save and natural by the moment they started to do the process, - it was my fault for not doing a research before, right?-  Any way, they were pretty, shinny, soft and lasted for a week (some of them) and then I started to peel them of my self.

I need and have to tell you that my nails have never ever been the same ever since, they peel of and brake and crack, to the point where I had to start taking Biotin to try to help them grow back (not that I ever used long nails, but decent, healthy looking nails)

• Some of the gel nail polishes contain a chemical called methyl acrylate which can cause an allergic skin reaction, called contact dermatitis. Wherever the chemical comes into contact with the skin, a rash may develop. Because we inadvertently touch our eyes throughout the day, the rash can also involve our eyelids. The rash from methyl acrylate is usually red, itchy, bumpy and uncomfortable. It may last a week or two. Removing the polish and treating the skin with a cortisone cream will clear the rash.

• The chemical, butylated hydroxyanisol (BHA), which is considered a cancer-causing agent, is found in some gel nail polishes. Although we do not know exactly how much exposure you would need for cancer to develop, it's important to be aware of this connection. Not all polishes contain this chemical, so check the ingredient list.

• Gel nail polish is set or cured with ultraviolet light. Think of the light as baking the polish into the nails. The problem is that ultraviolet light is essentially sunlight and sunlight causes skin cancer. If you are exposed to ultraviolet light for four to eight minutes every two weeks when you have a gel manicure, that can add up to significant exposure. To avoid potential skin cancers on your fingers or hands Dr. Susan Taylor suggest that you apply an SPF 30 or higher sunscreen to directly your hands and fingers after you wash your hands midway through the manicure. Then wear tightly woven cotton gloves with the tips of the fingers cut off. Another alternative is to find a manicurist that uses LED (light emitting diode) light to set the gel polish. Drs. don't think that this type of light will cause skin cancer.

• To remove gel polish, your nails are soaked in or wrapped in acetone. Acetone is a very drying chemical and will cause your nail to become brittle and peel after repeated use. Massaging a moisturizer into you nails several times each day will help to combat the dryness.

• As with acrylic nails, the surface of your nail is usually abraded or roughed with an emery board, before gel polish is applied. This will weaken your nail and lead to breakage and the possibility of infection.

 Desde que tengo a mis hijas yo no pinto muchas las uñas,  por qué, creo que es una pérdida de dinero para mí, vivo el día entero con ellas en el agua y mucho menos ahora con todas estas greñas, jejjje.

Pero desde que descubrí Pinterest tengo cómo una obsesión con uñas y tantos estilos artísticos lindos, que ves allí.

Como mujer, cuando tenemos un viaje, una fiesta o cualquier ocasión especial queremos vernos lo mejor posible, así es como caí en las uñas de gel, yo tenía un viaje en febrero pasado, por lo que por supuesto que tenía que lucir lo mejor posible mi: mi pelo estaba impresionante bello, venia yendo al Gym día tras día, pero mis uñas eran un desastre, así que después de escuchar una amiga hablando maravillas acerca de las uñas de gel y lo increíble que eran, caí en la tentación, 

Cuando llego allí, pensé que eran un poco caro para un simple esmalte de uñas, pero bueno, se supone que deben durar de 2 semanas (justo lo que necesitaba).

Yo sabía que no eran tan naturales desde el momento que comenzó la aplicación, - fue mi culpa por no hacer una investigación antes - Anyway, eran bastante brillante, suave y duraron una semana ( algunas de ellas) hasta que me las comenze a remover o mas bien a descascarar. 

Lo que necesito y tengo que decir es que mis uñas no han sido las misma desde entonces, se pelan, descascaran, se rompen, están opacas, rústicas, hasta el punto en que tuve que empezar a tomar biotina para tratar de ayudar a que crezcan de nuevo (yo nunca he usado las uñas largas, pero un largo decente y que se vean saludables)

• Algunos de la uña de gel contienen una sustancia química llamada acrilato de metilo que pueden causar una reacción alérgica en la piel, llamada dermatitis de contacto. Debido a que sin querer tocamos los ojos durante el día, la erupción también puede involucrar a nuestros párpados. La erupción de acrilato de metilo es generalmente de color rojo y con comezón, desigual e incómodo. Puede durar una semana o dos. Quitar el esmalte y el tratar la piel con una crema de cortisona se borrará la erupción.

• El producto químico, hidroxianisol butilado (BHA), se considera un agente causante de cáncer, y se ha encontrado en algunos esmaltes de gel de uñas. Aunque no se sabe exactamente la cantidad de exposición que se necesita para el cáncer se desarrolle, es importante ser consciente de esta conexión. No todos los esmaltes contienen esta sustancia química, a fin de comprobar la lista de ingredientes tendrás que leer las etiquetas.

• Las uñas de gel se establece o se sella con luz ultravioleta. Piensa en la luz como cocer el esmalte en las uñas. El problema es que la luz ultravioleta es esencialmente luz solar y la luz del sol provoca cáncer de piel. Si se expone a la luz ultravioleta durante cuatro a ocho minutos cada dos semanas cuando se tiene una manicura de gel, y sumas la exposición es muy significativa. Para evitar los posibles tipos de cáncer de piel en los dedos o las manos Dra. Susan Taylor sugieren que se aplice un protector solar SPF 30 o más directamente a las manos y los dedos después de lavarse la manos a mitad de camino mientras de haces la manicura. También puedes llevar guantes de algodón de tejido apretado con la punta de los dedos cortados. Otra alternativa es encontrar una manicurista que utiliza LED (diodo emisor de luz) de luz para sellar el esmalte de gel. Los Drs. no creen que este tipo de luz es dañino para la piel.

• Para quitar el esmalte de gel de las uñas , estas se sumergen en acetona.  La acetona es un químico que seca mucho al contacto y hará que la uña se vuelva frágil y se descascare después de un uso repetido. El masajear con  una crema hidratante varias veces al día le ayudará a combatir la sequedad.

• Al igual que con las uñas de acrílico, la superficie de la uña se suele raspar o poner porosa con una lima de uñas, Esto debilitará tus uña y las hará débiles.
